My niece is turning 21 next week and I'd like to get her something special for this milestone. She loves to cook. We spent a day this past summer making jam and chili and salsa and canning them at her request. She is a college student, so often she has to go for a quick option, but loves to spend the day in the kitchen when she has time. She grew up in the SF Bay area with a veggie garden in the backyard and goes to college in Oregon.
I'd thought of "The Way to Cook" as something worth her packing up and toting around, but my concern is that Julia's emphasis on American-northern European dishes may ignore the grains-greens-asian-mexican foodstuffs and techniques she's grown up with. I'll be sending this via Amazon, and I can't "look inside" TWTC, darnit.
Help me, Hounds!
