Recently, my wife and I entertained friends from Baltimore (who consider themselves to be knowledgable foodies) for a long weekend in Greenwich Village. We enjoyed an incredible dinner at Wallse on 11th Street-great wine with a most knowledgible sommelier, innovative,well-prepared cuisine, impeccable, yet friendly, service and a very laid back vibe. We will return again!
We also had a fun brunch at the Coffee Shop on Union Square, seated outside on a nice Fall morning; great seasonal Mexican food at LaPalapa on 6th Ave (do not miss their pumpkin soup or other pumpkin creations-awesome!). We also had a great lunch at Mary's Fish Camp-how is it that a Village restaurant can do a better job with lobster rolls than most comparable places in New England? Mary's definitely rocks!!
The only bad experience we had was at Inside on Jones St. The service was embarassingly bad, the food mediocre at best (my fish tasted like it had been out of the water way too long!), the ambience noisy and crowded. Anyone thinking about going to Inside should reconsider-there are many, many better options within two blocks!
