A group of friends and I had a very off-hour dinner at Mirchi last Sunday, sometime around 5. Not surprisingly, we were the only patrons in the place, save perhaps one other table.
There were probably a couple of waiters on duty, though I recall only one of them minding our table.
The meal itself was fine, but what left a bad taste in our mouth was the 20% (!) default gratuity slapped on the bill. I realize that several restaurants will put the tip directly on the bill for parties of 6/8 or more. And while, I'm philosohpically opposed to this practice under most circumstances (i.e. European tourist area), I think slapping on a lofty 20% is a bit outrageous, and discourages me from returning.
Has anyone else had this experience at Mirchi? We weren't lavished with any special care, and didn't order anything to be prepared in a special fashion. Given that we were the only table at an otherwise empty restaurant on another blustery cold day, we were scratching our heads and debating whether to simply pay it or have a word w/ the waiter.
