Hubby and I walked by many times, so when he saw them on restaurant.com, he decided to buy a gift certificate and we'd give it a try.
First of all the place is very pretty, fire place, beuatiful decorations(that will be my one and only positive comment). We went last night, we were the ONLY people in the restaurant. The waitstaff was all around the bar, drinking and joking. We were seated and asked to see the wine list. There were 8 bottles on it :( the cheapest white was 39 dollar pinot grigio, the cheapest red a 44 dollar merlot. And we are not talking just a small preium wine list here, we are talking 44 dollar sutter home merlot. I decided to look at the per glass prices. 7.75 for a glass of sutter home merlot!!! Are you kidding? Bottled beer was 4.25 (there were 4 selections, amstel, heineken, yuengling and corona, there was no beer on tap), so as i couldn't bring my self to be gouged for the wine, we ordered 2 amstel lights and decided to make the best of it.
The service was horrible. When we asked for a few minutes to look at the menu, he hung over us, when we asked for more bread or water, he disappeared (it wasn't like they were busy!).
We ordered what were supposed to be the 2 house specialties (they seemed quite reasonable). I had the curried lamb with walnuts and broccoli (15.95), and my husband had their "special" chicken kabobs with saffron rice (14.95) (both recommended by the waither. Before they arrived I asked for another beer, to find out they were the last 2 amstel's, they had no yuengling, ONE corona, and 6 heinekens (i was actually laughing at this point).
Dinner arrived. My meal was abysmal. I had TWO bite sized pieces of lamb in a soup bowl filled with a murky brown sauce that had no flavor (was absolutely NOT curry), every piece I thought was lamb turned out to be a walnut (mmmm walnut stew :(), it was served with carots and turnips (under done) broccoli (in the stew, i think it was previously frozen) and mashed potatoes (they were ok). My husbands was almost as bad. He had more meat but it was terribly bland. 5 broiled chicken pieces on a skewer with no spices or veggies or anything, white rice dusted with saffron and CAULIFLOWER and carrots (boiled to death). Terrible.
We tried to be nice, whe we went to leave, my husband went to the owner, and suggested an expanded wine list. He said (no joke) "i had one but the bottles kept disappearing", while the waiter laughed and made drunk hiccuping sounds.
I will never go back. I have had better experiences at Pizza Hut. I feel sorry for my hubby, he was trying to treat me to a nice meal to break up the week, and it sucked. (as a laugh he said "well at least you can bash it on chowhound tomorrow :)) From now on we will stick to places like Kabul and Arianna for our middle eastern food!
