Per messages on this board, I went to Rice Garden in Brookline recently. All I can say is wow. I have not had Chinese food that good in a long time - since the last time I went to San Francisco, in fact. Outstanding, and nice people.
To reiterate what other people have said, the decor is non-existent - typical tiny storefront with flourescent lighting. But the food is cheap and amazing.
Also, I happened to go to Uncle Pete's Barbecue in East Boston, and had the pleasure of eating the best barbecue I've had in New England. As a big barbecue fan, this is a happy thing. In fact, the pork ribs were some of the best I've had anywhere - a great place.
Once again, it is not a place one should visit for decor reasons.
