2 days of London Luxury Hotels & Chowhound Meals

I am trying to decide on a hotel and restaurants for two nights before I transfer into an apartment in Chelsea for a working month in London.

SO far the Savoy and the Berkeley look good as they offer serious luxury with in-hotel spas - but are there chowhounding opportunities? We are flying overnight and expect to be tired the day of arrival. We would like to stick in the general neighborhood of our hotel; walking around and sitting in cafes/pubs will be our total tourist effort those two initial days, so PROXIMITY is key.

Any suggestions on restaurants in those neighborhoods (or close enough) - more expensive for dinner (note however that I do no want to have to worry too much about being gussied up - relaxation is the focus) and cheaper casual places for lunch spiced with local flavor would be much appreciated.

I really love spice and ethnic foods, my husband less so but he will experiment and endure for me if there are dishes with grilled meats or other chunks of protein sans sauce, etc. He prefers Western and Eastern European Cuisines. We both like picnicing with street food or market food if there are beautiful parks and good eats so that would be a nice option if you can point us the right way.

Also it would be nice to know of other hotels with spas that you think are preferable or which are in more chowhound friendly neighborhoods.

I of course welcome suggestions for the rest of my time in London but have yet to do my own homework on this board and elsewhere

Thank you for any help you can afford - rebecca
