A-16 Update

DavidT | Mar 22, 200407:19 PM

I had dinner at A-16 last night for the first time. It has gotten mixed reviews on this board since it opend, so I thought I would throw my 2 cents in.

We had a reservation for 7 people at 7:30pm. My wife & I arrived on time and were seated at our group's table. The rest of the party was 15+ minutes late in arriving, but the hostess and wait staff could not have been more understanding. I thought that the service throughout the meal was very competent and professional.

The wine list has a strong southern Italian tilt. Even though I like to think I know Italian wine pretty well, there were many names on the list from Puglia, Campania, Sicily, etc. that I did not recognize. We had a very nice wine from Umbria - Arnoldo Capri "Poggio Belvedere" that was only $21. They also have several California wines from Italian varietals that I have not seen before. We had a Los Olivos Barbera for $25 that was also quite good.

The food menu is limited and most of the dishes are simply prepared. My salad with lettuce and chicory was nicely dressed and the pizza margherita was very authentic, with a very thin crust.
