When I first lived in the Bay Area, I enjoyed dining at the restaurant at 100 Brannan St. (I think it was called Embarco or Embarko at the time). Since then I have seen it change hands several times, becoming Pickled Ginger, LiveFire and currently the home of the venerated Slanted Door.
But now I hear that the Slanted Door will be moving out of this space. Does anybody know a valid reason why this address is always in flux? Is the rent too expensive? Is the traffic too slow? I've always liked the room, locale, and the fact that the area is one of the few places near downtown where it's easy to find a parking space nearby, but I've been mystified why restaurants can't seem to enjoy success in this location (although Delancey Street a block away hasn't changed hands in years).
