Has anybody tried Erna's? Zagat likes the food, decor, hospitality, etc.
I became a bit suspicious after booking a room at their attached "small chateau" for > $500/night, I was told that a 12% "gratuity" (i.e., another $60/night) would be added to my bill. Isn't this a service charge, not a gratuity. I asked if the employees get the full gratuity ("I'm not sure, but I think so" was the answer) and don't you pay your employees? It doesn't appear to be the custom in California's other luxury Inns to charge separately for service. Is this a tax scam, a SoCal trick or traditional European Hospitality?
