When/where did you first taste it?

While having cocktails with friends at a local happy hour spot, we got into when we had our first taste of certain foods and beverage. Well, it was fun recalling our earliest culinary memories and encounters, some rising to the level of an epiphany. A couple of mine: I did not taste lobster until I was into my mid-teens, having grown up in a conservative Jewish household. Of course, I have strayed a bit ever since. Then where was the time I tasted my first crème brulee, from the kitchen of a top French chef at the time. So smooth and delicious with its burnt crusty topping. Real semi-frozen tiramisu at a popular Italian spot years ago, before it all became so common. And, oh yes, fresh porcini mushrooms, in season in a pasta on famous Arthur Ave., the 'little Italy' of the Bronx, N.Y. Most recently, during a visit to a local micro-brewery in Portland, Maine, my first sip of sour beer. Nope, it was not for my palate, I'm afraid. Not that I wouldn't try it again sometime.
