Presidents’ Favorite Restaurants in DC

2 of 12
Claiming to serve “the best oyster stew on the East Coast,” Martin’s has been a longtime stop for presidents—usually still on their way to the Oval Office. Having proudly served every president from Harry S. Truman (booth six) until George W. Bush (table 12) before the time of their administrations, Martin’s Tavern can truly boast its presidential ties. During your visit, be sure to notice the brass plaque in booth three where John F. Kennedy supposedly proposed to Jackie in on June 24, 1953. (There are conflicting stories on the actual location of the proposal, but we’d like to believe it’s true.)
