The once-speakeasy started as a club in Greenwich Village in 1922. It settled in Midtown West in 1929 and eventually became 21 Club, sometimes just referred to as “21.” The exterior of the restaurant at 21 West 52nd street is best known for being adorned with painted cast-iron lawn jockey statues. Every president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt (except for George W. Bush) has dined at 21 Club, along with innumerable celebrities.
