The Evolution of Coca-Cola Bottle and Can Designs

The original Coca-Cola bottle was pretty plain, just straight-sided clear glass with the brand logo stamped into it. In 1915, the sinuously shaped "contour bottle" (sometimes called the "hobbleskirt bottle") was patented, and in 1961, it was officially trademarked. The specific dimensions of the bottles and the labels on them, not to mention their materials, have changed over the years and continue to evolve.
