Creole cream cheese may not be well known outside of New Orleans, and even there it's probably outpaced by the Philadelphia brand these days, but it dates back to the 1800s and has French roots. Made from skim milk, buttermilk, and rennet, it's creamy and lightly tangy and often eaten for dessert (sometimes even turned into ice cream), but was traditionally a breakfast food.
