Patricia Unterman of the San Francisco Examiner gave high praise to the new Sichuan Home, calling it the best new Chinese restaurant in San Francisco since Hakka Restaurant opened.
Naturally, a few Chowhound reviewers traveled to the Richmond to see what the fuss is about. The verdict?
“Edible, just not incredible,” said possumspice, who thought the dishes had too much sugar and too little spice, adding that “the wontons were maybe the best of the bunch.”
“Sadly lacking in heat and Sichuan peppercorns, which add not only ‘ma la’ but also floral, citrusy notes,” agrees Ruth Lafler. Windy liked the fresh, clean garlic cucumbers, but repeated the complaint that the dishes lacked typical Sichuan flavors.
