The “absolute bargain” three-course prix fixe menu at Station 1 in Woodside drew raves from both mdg and mhuang, and earned the restaurant a first-time spot on the Chronicle‘s ever-controversial Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants list.

The seasonal menu matches the approach at the Peninsula’s best restaurants, but Station 1’s take is more casual and rustic, with larger-than-average portions according to our reviewers. The one-page wine list seemed well curated but offered a few missteps, with an atypical Falanghina that was served too cold and an off-flavor Rhône.

Highlights for mhuang included a curried white carrot soup amuse-bouche and an entrée of Wagyu bavette with black garlic sauce; mdg seconds the recommendation for the beef and also loved the “vibrant green taste” of the nettle risotto.
