Asahi.com writes up and photographically proves the arrival of gorgeous heart-shaped Japanese melons, which hit the market just in time for Mother’s Day. Price per melon (converted to US dollars): roughly $160.
This of course recalls the nostalgic “food of the weird” story that rocked 2001: the arrival of crazy-looking square Japanese melons. Is there no shape that Japanese melons cannot attain?
The BBC’s take on the square melons was hilariously infomercial too: “For years consumers struggled to fit the large round fruit in their refrigerators. And then there was the problem of trying to cut the fruit when it kept rolling around.”
