Up in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf district, far from the flash of iPhone cameras documenting each dish served at Off the Grid, Melanie Wong and a friend found a truck marked “Eva’s Catering, The Wonton Stand” parked in front of California Shellfish at 8:30 a.m.
The hefty menu included quesadillas, burritos, Hunan-style Chinese food, and Mongolian menudo, which wasn’t offered the day Melanie visited. She and her friend split a generous order of wonton soup, which was loaded with fresh vegetables stir-fried in the truck.
“With the turn on the grill, the vegetables developed their full flavor. This certainly hit the spot and exceeded our rather low expectations,” Melanie said.
