Here’s one for the philosophy files: Japanese officials at Yokaichi Minami High School in the city of Higashiomi were surprised to discover that a giant egg they were going to put on display had a normal egg inside of it. After the big egg developed a crack, teachers at the school opened it using a scalpel, and the normal-sized egg popped out along with the yolk and albumen.

The discovery raises some interesting conundrums. Which came first, the big egg or the normal egg? If allowed to mature, would the eggs have developed into a chicken in a chicken? And, perhaps most mind-blowingly, does the normal-sized egg have another egg inside of it? And does that egg have another egg inside? When will it end?

Officials at the school plan to crack open the normal egg next week, so stay tuned for alterations in the space-time continuum.
