This year’s Expo Comida Latina boasts an improvement on something most people would say was doing just fine sans innovation. The good old-fashioned tortilla sports a makeover courtesy of Anacom Alimentos: It’s now square.
It’s a food shaped for today’s ‘on-the-go taco lovers,’ [the company’s president] said, adding that tiYas, la tortilla diferente, can wrap around more food.
Regardless of how well a square tortilla is received by the masses, messing around within the Latin food and beverage sector is probably a smart long-term move. According to the Houston Chronicle write-up of the Expo, the sector’s sales in the United States are expected to reach $7 billion in 2009, up from $4.4 billion in 2004.
