The grocery chain carries many specialty items as well, including gluten-free, keto-friendly, and organic products. Not only is this grocery store popular for budget minded consumers, it’s also popular with many nutritionists. Here are a few favorite things that nutritionists Hailey Crean, Anna Block, and Christina Ross always buy when shopping at ALDI.

Little Salad Bar Asian Chopped Salad Kit
The ready-to-go salad in a bag retails for around three dollars. It makes both Hailey and Anna’s list because all the prep work is done for you. “Plus the base of this salad is cabbage, a cruciferous vegetable high in phytonutrients believed to have powerful anti-inflammatory effects,” explains Hailey. “Mixed salad bags are a great way to get your five vegetables a day,” Anna concurs.

ALDI carries a range of flavorful hummus such as garlic, roasted red pepper, olive tapenade, and spicy versions. “Made with chickpeas, it offers healthy plant-based protein and can be used to dip veggies [and] crackers or as [a] spread on sandwiches,” suggests Hailey.
Simply Nature Organic Frozen Blueberries
Blueberries are the king of antioxidant rich foods. However, they can be expensive when not in season. “Frozen berries are always a good pick up,” Hailey recommends; “they are significantly less expensive than fresh plus you don’t risk having them go bad before you can use them.” Hailey suggests using them in smoothies, overnight oats, or thawed on top of yogurt.
Mosher Dark Chocolate
Any chocolate that makes it onto a healthy list is a good thing. “This is good quality Belgian chocolate with low sugar content, good quality dark cocoa, and is budget friendly too,” says Anna. “Cocoa contains lots of good antioxidants so this makes my list.”

Eggs are one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. “Eggs are inexpensive and easy to prepare and a rich source of protein,” explains Hailey, “plus they are an excellent source of choline, which plays an important role in cell signaling and metabolism.”
L’Oven Fresh Zero Net Carb Bread
This bread is popular with keto diet followers due to its net zero carb content. Christina says that this bread will help keep your hunger at bay because of its high protein and fiber content. “It does have a higher fat content due to the abundance of seeds,” Christina explains, “however these seeds provide healthy polyunsaturated fats.”
Friendly Farms Organic Original Unsweetened Almond Milk
If you are looking to replace cow’s milk in your diet with a plant-based alternative, almond milk is a perennially popular choice. Christina likes ALDI’s organic version because it has been fortified with calcium. She says the calcium in the almond milk is equivalent to that found in cow’s milk, making it a wise option for those wishing to use it as a replacement.
Simply Nature Creamy Almond Butter
“This almond spread is 100 percent nuts, with no added oils, salt, or sugar,” says Chrisina. Almonds are loaded with healthy fats, fiber, protein, magnesium, and vitamin E. They help lower blood sugar levels, reduce blood pressure, and lower cholesterol levels. Christina suggests using the almond butter in smoothies, overnight oats, or on toast for added healthy fats and protein.

Quinoa is one of a few plants that contain sufficient amounts of all nine essential amino acids. “It’s a complete plant-based protein and a good source of fiber,” says Christina. She says it’s a pantry staple in her kitchen and often uses in place of rice and adds it to salads or stuffed vegetables.
ALDI offers both organic and seasonal produce. Anna’s favorite produce to buy is sweet potatoes. “Sweet potatoes are a great source of vitamin A and as a low GI carbohydrate, will keep you full longer,” she explains.
Another good buy are fresh herbs! In spring the grocer offers potted herbs to grow in your garden. “Basil pots are a fun way to add flavor to your meals for less than three dollars,” says Anna.
