Have you ever been to a group exercise class that encouraged drinking while working out? If you haven’t, you’re totally missing out! These days, there are many new exercise classes available to meet the ever-changing needs and interests of consumers. In Washington D.C., Right Proper Brewing Company is making a toast to yoga during their monthly “Cheers & Namaste” classes, offering the ultimate weekend beer experience mixing in-house brewed beers and yoga poses.

Yes, you heard that right—yoga plus craft beer! What could be better? At the Right Proper Brewing Brookland Production House and Tasting Room, the Cheers & Namaste yoga class is held on the second Saturday of every month. Here yogis and beer drinkers alike can step inside the working brewery to take this exciting class. Visitors are greeted to a unique, open, industrial-style space. The tasting room has tables made from reclaimed cherry wood, while other quirky touches include wall murals featuring animals feasting on humans and a working piano located in the bathroom. Each house-made brew also has a creative name like “Raised By Wolves” and “Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine.”

This makes for the perfect space for a Saturday afternoon adventure. Each class features a set flight menu. After checking in, attendees pick up their beer flight and set their yoga mat up in the production room. Yoga instructor Ramona Leigh leads the class through an hour of group power flow yoga practice. During the class, everyone is encouraged to sip at their beers between yoga positions. Talk about being rewarded for a great workout!

The class costs $15 and includes a three-glass flight. It’s a great event for friends, couples, and individuals alike—anyone 21+ is invited. Whether you love yoga or just savor beer, it’s worth giving the experience a try. Attendees are asked to bring their own yoga mat to each class. On Saturdays, they always have a food truck or cart on site, so a snack or meal can easily be enjoyed after class.

Some may think the idea of an alcohol-fueled yoga class sounds contradictory, but that’s what makes it more fun and unique! Event coordinator Allison McNamara explains why so many people enjoy this event: “People like to drink. They might not like to work out, but when it’s paired with drinking, I think it gives more motivation to do something good for yourself.” I think we can all agree that beer is the perfect reward for a weekend workout!

Right Proper Brewing Company has two locations in the D.C. area. The Brookland Production House and Tasting Room offers tastings and tours, as well as special events. If you’re in the mood for more of a restaurant and bar experience, the Shaw Brewpub and Kitchen is also worth exploring. This location has a full beer, wine, spirits, and food menu, and offers catering services for events and parties.
