Sharpening knives is hard enough. What about when those tiny, barely accessible blades on your vegetable peeler go dull? A recent Chowhound discussion offered some solutions.
One method is to use a small knife to sharpen the blades. Here’s a CHOW video demonstrating the process (pictured). Chowhound user Chemicalkinetics uses the corner of a sharpening stone, holding the peeler in one hand and the stone in the other, and keeping the peeler stationary while moving the stone. JavaBean uses a piece of wet/dry sandpaper attached to a paint stick. And scubadoo97 runs the peeler up and down a ceramic steel, as if peeling the steel. “Works like a charm,” scubadoo97 says.
