When you drain canned fruit, don’t toss the syrup. Instead, use it as a flavorful addition to drinks and desserts. Chowhound suggestions include stirring it into sparkling water or iced tea, or freezing it in ice cube trays to use in fruit punch or blender cocktails. Fruit syrup can serve as both liquid and sweetener in homemade gelatin desserts, greygarious says: Use 2 cups of syrup for each 1/4-ounce packet of plain gelatin, or use part syrup and part cream. It can also sweeten up breakfast, as a topping for both pancakes and oatmeal.
