Who says you need to spend a crazy amount of cash to eat like royalty in the Capitol? Although DC does fine dining as well as the next, their affordable eats will leave you just as satisfied. Here are 4 must-try restaurants that will blow your mind without blowing your budget!
If you like Halal Guys, you will LOVE District Chicken & Gyro. They're located in Georgetown, and they're open every day. Their hours are usually 11am - 10pm, but they're open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays to cater to late night crowds. Their menu's simple; you can get a platter ($10) or you can get a gyro ($8).
Simply choose the meat of your choice (chicken, gyro or both) and drizzle on white, hot and/or BBQ sauce. Their food comes out piping hot, and they do NOT skimp on meat, like you'll leave with enough food for two meals. Their hot sauce isn't as insane as Halal Guys, but that's probably for the better - it's just as flavorful...and easier on your stomach.
If you're looking for wholesome food that's truly delicious, Teaism is an absolute must. They have three different locations in DC - Penn Quarter, Dupont Circle and Lafayette Park - and the most expensive dish on their menu is $13.25. If you haven't been yet, here are some recommendations: their Chilled Noodles & Avocado ($11.50), their Broccoli Tots ($5), their Fried Organic Chicken Bento ($13.25), and their French Toast ($6 for one, $12 for two).
You can't go wrong with any of the aforementioned dishes so go wild - just remember to finish your meal with a cup of tea and slice of Hungarian Tea Cake. By the way, did we mention that everything's made from scratch? Yep, they even make their own tapioca balls for their bubble tea fresh daily!
3. Pow Pow
Whether you're vegan or not, we can pretty much guarantee you'll love the food at Pow Pow. Their restaurant's located on 1253 H Street NE, and they specialize in new-asian cuisine (think the best of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean flavors all fused together).
Everything on the menu's plant-based, but you wouldn't know unless someone told you. In fact, we're willing to put money on it because their "meat" tastes SO much like meat. Make sure you get there and try their Vegan Mozzarella Balls, their Trolley Fries ($5), and their Natalie Porkman Bowl ($9/$11).
4. DCity Smokehouse
If you're looking for solid BBQ and haven't been to DCity yet, you need to stop whatever it is you're doing and go STAT. Located on 203 Florida Ave NW, they're open on Mondays from 5PM -12am and Tuesday-Sundays from 11am to 12am. Must-tries include their Meaty Palmer ($10) and their Ribs & Wings Combo ($15).
The Meaty Palmer contains turkey, pork belly, avocado, tomato, chipotle aioli, and all things good in life. The toast's super buttery, and the meat is as tender as can be. The aforementioned combo comes with 2 sides - definitely get their fried brussels sprouts - and everything is seasoned to perfection. Now, there are amazing wings, and there are AH-MAAAA-ZING wings. These are the latter so go, enjoy and thank us afterwards.
