Driving home from Foxwood's, we decided to take some backroads & look for a little 'hidden treasure' kind of place to have lunch. I saw Herman's Diner out of the corner of my eye, slammed on the brakes & backed up a bit to turn into the parking lot.
It was great! The kind of place where the staff knows all the regulars by name. A funky little trailer by the side of the road. Good ole boys having lunch at the counter. Just simple, homestyle cooking. I had a fabulous mushroom cheese omelet, with their hand-cut, skin-on fries. My boyfriend had perfect sunny-side-up eggs w/homemade sausage patty & home fries. Everything was simple, and fresh and homey.
If you're ever driving on Route 85 through Colchester, CT (the middle of nowhere, as far as I could tell), keep an eye out for Herman's Diner.
