Zeke's Smokehouse at the Target Center (review)

So I had an appointment nearby, and I noticed that Zeke's at the Target Center at Santa Monica and La Brea was open. So I checked it out. It was the first day it was open so this should not be considered a real review, just an appetizer.

The space is nice, kinda typical chain-style fast-casual restaurant decor, but nice and comfortable with a high ceiling and good light.

The staff was very friendly, they seem to be hiring people with a bit of 'character' whatever that means, a mix of people, some of them with 'funky' looks like tinted glasses or dyed hair.

So, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was very tender, but was lacking in the flavor you would expect. There was a good amount of smokiness but otherwise it was kind of bland. The bread was plain and since the meat wasn't flavorful enough it stood out more then it should.

The table has 3 sauces, the orange-pepper one went great with the pork, livening up the sandwich and making it pretty good. It also came with really really good kettle potato chips on the side.

All in all I think this is going to evolve into a decent BBQ place. I say decent and not great because the overall feeling was pretty corporate, and I like my BBQ places to be down home and weird, not pristine and mall-ified. But if you work in the area or are shopping its a great thing to have BBQ as an option!
