I noticed the small thread below re Esca. I remember going there a few months after it opened, a few years back now and being not just under-whelmed but compelely disgusted with the experience. I had a late reseravation (say 9:30 or so) and by the time we were seated at 10:30 (!!!), half the menu was unavailable. This was after having spent a ridiculous sum at the bar on blood orange belinni's or something pretentious like that. The service was simply attrocious.
It was so bad, I was determined that we'd seen an off-night and two years later (it took that long to wash the initial bad taste out of my mouth!) we went back and it was exactly the same. I am blown away that the same man that operates Babbo also runs Esca (not a big fan of Batalli the man, I've met him on two occasions and he seemed to me to be a bit of a douchebag but Batalli the chef is unequaled.) Esca and Babbo are like night and day in terms of food, service, ambience, vibe, etc.
Am I the only one that feels this way???!!!
