This is a great recommendation if you work, pass by, or live near downtown Los Angeles, or if you are like me and like to explore and find a good coffee.
Yesterday, Easter Sunday, after a nice lunch at Mozza I told my husband about a place I had read about a couple of weeks ago that I really wanted to try. We were not sure about their hours on Sundays, or perhaps it might be closed on Easter Sunday.
We took the chance and drove to Downtown Los Angeles, and there we found the tiny, and I mean tiny coffee shop, Spring For Coffee. It is new (about a month or so) and located on 6th and Spring. From the moment we walked in we felt the 'coffee love.' A very cute little shop, very clean, and simply adorned with a nice chandelier.
The very nice owner was the nicest barista I have ever met, he asked what type of coffee I liked, then he explained a few points about the art of brewing coffee, the different flavors and process, then he went ahead and prepared possibly one of the best coffees I have had in a very long time, using the Chemex process. He recommended La Mill Ethiopia Sidamo, and it was a perfect choice for me.
From what I saw they currently have coffees from roasters Intelligentsia, Equator & La Mill. The prices are extremely reasonable, I paid $6.00 for a large carafe, enough for two large cups of coffee. (I posted a few photos) They actually offer various brewing methods. Their espressos come from a beautiful La Marzocco.
Outside they have a couple of small tables, so we sat and enjoyed the view of Downtown Los Angeles. For me it was hard to believe that I was enjoying a great cup of coffee right in the middle of downtown Los Angeles. I have to admit that I have avoided Downtown Los Angeles for many years, until a few weeks ago when my husband took me for a drive around DLA, and I am glad he did, I discovered so many things about it that I didn’t know existed.
Spring for Coffee also sells pastries from Rockenwagner bakery. The milk is from Straus Family Creamery.
I am not completely sure about their hours, but I read that they're open until 7pm on weekdays, 5pm on Saturdays, and 5pm on Sundays.
I just wish they were closer, but I will try to stop next time I am in the area.
