Last night we celebrated my DH's birthday at Sparrow in SF. From the first phone call to reserve the room, the meet with the lovely Molly, to the incredible meal last night, everything was so professional, perfect, smooth, and wonderful.
We asked the chef to prepare anything he wanted. All we suggested was 5 courses. Each course was better than the last.
Kampachi "Jack" Sashimi with Chilled Green Tea Noodles. There was Salmon Caviar and a Quail egg. Perfection!
Tempura of Shimeji Mushroom, Risotto with Saffron & kabocha jiuce, truffle Ponzu sauce. It just got better.
Inaka Udon with Curry-butter Poched lobster. A new level of perfection.
Roasted Squab "Red cooked" in Soy Molasses_Hibiscus Marinade. Sauted sweet potatoes, carrots and Red Shiso Salad. And better and better.
Ice cream taster: black peppercorn, Lemongrass, Apple sorbet, Zinfande Grape. The best ending.
Each course was matched with a wine. We were so impressed with the service. We had 13 eating, the wait staff came in (7 or 8 at a time) each with two plates or the wine. The food went down on the table at the same time. It was a lovely prduction. The head waiter explained each course/wine. She ran a tight ship and also was fun.Th e chef came out to wish DH a happy birthday, and to accept our praise. A genius with food.
We also had drinks at the bar, the meal, a $50 centerpiece, 3 wines (one was Champagne), we paid for our guests parking and left about a 25% tip. It costs us $200 a head. You could have a lovely meal for less. It was worth every penny we spent.
People, this is an amazing place for dinner, a party, even just a drink. They even have valet parking @$9.00 an evening. Where else in the city will you find that?
