heard there was a fun atmosphere and great food at samba le in the east village...so i took a visiting friend there last night for dinner and drinks.
i had just recently spent a month in brazil so the food is fresh in my mind...maybe thats why i was completely disappointed in the food at samba le!? i ordered the bobo de camarao. a shrimp dish made with coconut milk, dende oil, and manioc (usually) it came and tasted absolutely NOTHING like the real dish in brazil. and for what it was, it wasn't even good. they used tiny shrimp and were cooked to death so that they tasted like rubber.
we also ordered the pao de queijo. little manioc cheese breads that are popular in brazil. these are usually hot, chewy, and airy little puffs of bread. the bread they brought to the table were like mini golf balls. i could barely crack through one with my teeth! ugh who would serve that?
my friend ordered the picanha. a steak with sliced garlic, a tomato and olive salad, and fried yucca. her's was a little better than my disaster but really no reason to make yourself run to this place.
the drinks.... we ordered a pitcher of pineapple white sangria. very delicious. i could go back and sit at the bar and drink that if there was even a reason to. but with ny having so many amazing restaurants, why bother?
