I went to Raku, a Japanese and Korean small plates place at Olymic and Barrington that has been recommended here. They have a big and interesting menu. The food was a little uneven but generally quite good. The best dish I had was (I think) marinated mackerel with miso. I would go back. They're now open weekdays for lunch but maybe with a limited menu.
Afterwards I went to the Nijiya market on Sawtelle near Olympic and got mochi, mackerel, udon, yam noodles, vegetable drink, etc.
It's great living in Los Angeles and having cool places like these right nearby.
