Thanks to all who answered my post in early November. We went to Sacramento first and ate at Waterboy and Firehouse. We really enjoyed Waterboy - the food was delicious, the staff friendly and we even got to speak to the chef. The food was delicious.
We also enjoyed the Firehouse - what a wine list! The food was very well prepared and we enjoyed it very much. The only negative was that an order of diver scallops for (about) $25 only included 3 scallops. Here in the East we expect at least 4 or 5 for an entree!
In Lake Tahoe/Stateline NV we ate the first night at Llewellyn's, which was very good but not as good as the 2 restaurants in Sacramento. The second nite we didn't feel like eating much so went to a Wolfgang Puck Express, which just hit the spot.
On our way back to SF in the rain we ate at Kirby's Creekside in Grass Valley - we were disappointed. The yellowtail tuna was some soft white fish that looked (and tasted) more like sea bass or something like that.
