Peruvian Kitchen review - Fountain Valley

I decided to finally check out Peruvian Kitchen in Fountain Valley for lunch today after remembering a few queries about it in this forum awhile ago.

I'm a newbie when it comes to Peruvian food, as I think I've only been to one other Peruvian restaurant in the past 10 years. I can't tell you if the food is authentic or not, I can only tell you if my taste buds and stomach like it. :-)

Nice interior decorations with a wood theme, there are some pics on their website at the link below. Restaurant was relatively empty today at lunch, with 4 occupied tables out of 20-30 total tables.

Just a note, I didn't see any of the lunch specials that are advertised on their website appear on the menu, so that might have been a limited time promotion.

I opted to try the Cau Cau de Mariscos, a sort of seafood platter composed of shrimp, calamari, scallops, and mussels with diced potatoes, all sauteed with a yellow curry type of sauce, with a scoop of rice, along with various chopped veggies like carrots, peas, etc. mixed in. This was a very tasty dish with lots of wonderful flavor, but my one scoop of rice proved to be a bit too small, so I had to sort of ration out the rice in smaller scoops per bite to make sure I had enough when I finished the last bites on my plate.

My only criticism on the place is that there was only one waiter working all of the occupied tables, but since there were only 4 tables of customers, it didn't seem like a lot. But as a result, the service was a bit spotty, as it took a bit of time to get refills for my drink, and I had to ask for the check after waiting more than 5 minutes after I finished eating, rather than have the waiter place it on the table as soon after I finished eating.

Maybe when the restaurant gets busier during dinner, there's more waiters/waitresses on hand, so the service doesn't lag, but the service during lunch wasn't great.

I will definitely be back, though, as the food is quite wonderful. I'm eager to continue exploring the depths of Peruvian cuisine in the future.
