This is maybe more of a cooking question than an eating question, but I thought I'd give it a try...
The last few times I have purchased oysters from Isaacson & Stein (whom I consider a near-unimpeachable source for seafood) I have found small (nickel-sized) live crabs inside about 1/3 of the oysters. The oysters are succulent and plump, and the crabs are lively. So my questions are:
1) Who's eating who? Or is this symbiosis?
2) Is there a problem in eating the oyster once the crab has been removed?
3) Is the crab some sort of weird delicacy that I'm a fool to flush down the toilet?
Any input on this would be appreciated. To be honest, the whole situation kind of flips me out.
