Nate and Al's

On the way back West from 94 deg. West Hollywood, we stopped at Nate and Al's for lunch. Its an amazing room really unchanged since I started going there many years ago - no apologies, naughahyde booths, no screens between booths and an eerie 50's feeling lingering in a well air conditioned space. OK, the food. I had a pretty good cup (really a bowl) of cold beet borscht with a scoop of sour cream for the warm day plus half a tongue sandwich with pototo salad - excellent tongue - not to processed or fatty, just well cooked meaty meat. Partner had a cup (read bowl because that's what it would be in any other restaurant) of perfect matzo ball soup - excellent broth with a rather large airy matzo ball - really have to say it would be worth a return visit it was that good. Partner also had half a pastrami sandwich (also on excellent rye) with cole slaw which she said was first rate. Only thing I missed was a Chocolate Phosphate. Bill was $23 plus tip - close public parking rough the corner. Everything better than Juniors, my usual hangout out West.
