Nae Go Hyang (3516 W 8th St, just east of Western in a big strip center) serves up some great soups. Usually, I associate the heavy bean paste or spicy garlic/chili base paste with Korean soups, but Nae Go serves up very homey, comfort soup on the lighter side. The broth is anchovy base and has a clear appearance and light texture.
My personal favorite is the Meul Chi Guk Soo ($7.39), which has whole wheat flour knife-cut noodles and a slew of vegatables including squashes, scallion, and various roots. The soup is served in the pot it is cooked in with a ladle. One order is enough for two people if you have an appetizer (the dumplings and Korean Style "Pan Cake" are a solid choice).
They also have a tasty seafood soup, Hae Mul Kal Guk Soo ($8.31), but the crab and shrimp are tiny and messy....a lot of work for a little meat.
All food comes with all you can eat kimchi and radish kimchi. Service is friendly, The atmosphere is homey and simple, certainly not the place to go to impress. Obviously the value is supreme.
