So I went to make gingerbread cookies tonight and opened my jar of molasses for the first time (bought it a while back). In trying to get the thing open, I noticed a "best by" date of 7-2007... Hmmm... It smelled VERY strong when I opened it, but I've never cooked with molasses before and didn't know what to expect as a normal smell... I went ahead and made the cookie dough (coming as I do from a mother who thinks that literally almost nothing spoils past use). But I haven't baked it yet - any thoughts, folks? I usually trust my nose and eyes over best-by dates, but as I said, I have no idea what molasses is supposed to smell like!
