Mina: Tomato Paste Chicken and Sickly Sweet Cheese

Minha Mihana | Mar 13, 2004 06:59 PM

I was blown away the first time I ate at Mina when it first opened. Then I went about 6 months ago and it was nowhere near as good. In fact, it was kind of crappy.

Alpha Dawg said ya gots to order it spicy or else you'll get shortchanged. So we just returned from our third visit. We made sure to ask for it SPICY!

The Kashmiri chicken was nothing more than chicken in what appeared to be raw, plain, gloppy (tasteless) tomato paste with undercooked peppers and onions. The chicken was dry too.

The Palak Paneer was buttery. But the cheese was soo sweet -- it was just plain wrong (to my tastes). Like they accidentally dumped the entire bag of sugar into the yogurt. Not good, not really very good. Nope, can't say's we liked it. That dish was incredible the first time -- but got exponentially worse each of the next visits.

The Chicken Kulcha was the only really decent thing. That filled me up at least.

The place was a lot more busy than earlier visits, so maybe that had something to do with it. But I don't know. I'll remember that first meal there with fondness, though, as I'll probably never recreate the magic. I'm pretty sure we won't be back.
