Maki Maki Woburn

Maki Maki in Woburn took over the space where Far East Cafe used to reside until the rent increases was too much for John and he had to close down. I have fond memories of the Sunday all you can eat dim sum for $7.95 and that included steamed crab legs. Admittedly that was a while ago ;-).
Maki Maki serves an all you can eat concept that is different from the normal all you can eat sushi/Japanese places. At lunch it's $12.99 Mon-Fri (Dinner $21.99 Sun-Thurs) and when I asked the other day if you order from the menu, they said yes but the reality was a bit different. At lunch you get a menu at your table and you write in what you want and how many portions of each. At lunch they have pre made sushi laid out that you can help yourself to. There are also salads, edamame, seaweed salad, sweet potato fries.
Tuna and Salmon Nigiri was the option for nigiri. I also had the Shrimp Tempura roll and Spicy Tuna roll and (cold) sweet potato fries. As expected the fish was cut very thinly and there was no wasabi underneath the fish, if the rice had any vinegar in it I was not able to detect it. All the nigiri is premade and stored in a fridge so it comes out cold, way below room temperature. However the fish was really fresh. They also did refresh the nigiri plate when it was running low. The spicy tuna roll and the spicy salmon roll was both made up of fish mush with added spices. The shrimp tempura from the menu was nice and crisp. I belive it might work better at dinner since all the sushi is then made to order.
