lunch at Cina Romanian Restaurant, Astoria

After reading enthusiastic reports here, my husband and I had lunch at Cina today and we loved it. The $7 lunch special includes soup or salad and a main course. We both had the vegetable soup with rice and meatballs, which was delicious. I had the stuffed cabbage, which came with polenta, sauerkraut and a slice of bacon and my husband had the bulz romanese (described on the menu as "a polenta ball stuffed with feta cheese and sour cream, garnished with sausages and served with a fried egg"). Everything tasted wonderful and slightly unusual (in a good way) with distinctive flavors and obviously prepared with great care--the stuffed cabbage and sauerkraut were unlike any I'd had before. It's also a really nice-looking and comfortable place and the waitress was sweet and helpful. We're looking forward to trying the more extensive dinner menu.

As others have said here before, I urge other hounds to check out Cina. It's a real find.
