I was born and raised in the city, but somehow have managed (unintentionally) to avoid bialys for the first 28 years of my life.
Yesterday morning, I found myself hungry, and walking past Kossar's, which of course, I have heard numerous great things about on these boards.
I went in, and ordered a bialy. It was tough. The texture reminded me of a day-old bagel. It didn't have much flavor. There was some sort of onion in the middle which was pretty good. Overall, I was completely unimpressed.
Now if I had gotten the exact same thing at a street cart, I would've just assumed it was a poor example. But this was Kossar's, supposedly the best bialy in the city. So my question is this - was that an incredibly off day for them, or do I just not like bialys?
