Kona Village Resort & Pahu i`a - Reviews

Well, it's been awhile & the details are a little fuzzy, but...

KVR was lovely - all meals are included. The breakfast were a la carte - very broad choice & you could order as much or as little as you like. Specials like crab omelettes, a delicious filet mignon with eggs, French toast - nothing super elaborate or large, but all very good. Don't miss their honey! I'd order English muffins just to get some of this wonderful stuff! Lunch was a buffet, but on the better side as buffets go. Nice salad bar, unlimited ahi sashimi was the highlight for me, there was a theme of the day & grilled items & a huge dessert bar. A la Carte items could be ordered at the seaside bar from 2 - 4pm. They were pretty rigid about meal times. Dinner - choice of Hale Moana or Hale Samoa - some items at Hale Samoa had a surcharge, but we felt well worth it. Outside patio dining, twinkly lights, gracious service & excellent food - I had a veal & lobster appetizer one night, followed by rack of lamb, which was incredible - huge juicy chops perfectly cooked. Lobster was excellent & the desserts were amazing. Small, but nice wine list.

Pahu i`a - tried to change our 8:30 reservation to earlier & really had a tough time. Ended up with a 6pm, which was perfect as right before sunset. We were seated on a lanai to the right of the main dining room, with no one in front or behind us - wonderful table. Excellent service - charming, fun, yet professional. Our guests ordered some very unusual cocktails & they were made with a smile & declared the best they'd ever had. Whales were frolicking in the ocean, couples getting engaged, waves crashing - just an incredible place. Only drawback were the two different Meursaults I ordered, which could have been my fault, but we all found rather weak & flavorless. The foie gras appetizer was perfect, except for the fact there wasn't enough of it, my ahi perfectly done with wonderful sides, which I'm blurring on, guys veal T-Bones proclaimed the best they'd ever had, but the hit of the evening was a butternut squash mascarpone & white truffle risotto - sex on a fork! Probably the best (risotto) I've ever had. Dessert was also a blur, but I believe we finished all of it. Just an incredibly romantic, delicious & wonderful evening. Best meal I've had in years in Hawaii.
