When I get desserts or bubble tea with sour fruits and vegetables like passion fruit, lime, lemon, or rhubarb - or, for that matter, savory dishes with tamarind - I like to taste a good deal of genuine sourness. I feel like, if so much sugar is added that the result is completely or almost completely sweet, what's the point? So I ask you, where can I get desserts with genuine sourness - a genuinely limey key lime pie, a tangy rhubarb tart without strawberries, a bracingly sour passion fruit gelato? OK, I actually do have a source for that: A little shop between 33rd and 34th Sts. on the east side of 3rd Av. I was pleasantly surprised at how sour that gelato was and loved it! And serious bonus points for Indian restaurants that serve tamarind sauce that doesn't taste like black sugar syrup.
