Fresh on Bloor - Sat. Afternoon (long)

EB | Mar 18, 2006 05:02 PM

My family and I wanted to try something a little different this afternoon so we decided to go for Fresh (and this a family that loves to eat meat, particularly me who can be described as a VERY picky eater and I'll be the first to admit that). Seeing as we live in Thornhill we decided to go to the "closest" of the 3 locations, the one on Bloor.

We arrived at 2:25 pm to see a busy restaurant and a lineup at the door. We were told that it would be about a 20 minute wait. Having travelled all the way there we decided to wait. The guy didn't bother to take our name down until about 7 minutes later when a couple walked in and just sat down. My mom called him on it and he mentioned that they had been there before and decided to take a walk rather than wait inside. It was only at this point that he had taken our name. Luckily, our table (at a VERY narrow booth which didn't have much room to move) was ready a few minutes later.

By the time we were seated, looked at the menu and the waitress came to take our order, it was 2:50. The waitress did apologize for the wait and explained that it was busy which I thought was appropriate. She took our orders (drinks and food at the same time) and walked away. Finally at 3:15 our meals arrived but our drinks (we all ordered Espresso/Fruit shakes) still hadn't. They arrived just after we had started to eat.

The food, however, was very good and different, so it was well worth the wait. I had the onion and mushroom burger which was actually very good, and I LOVED the side of sweet potato fries (they were not soggy at all as someone recently wrote here). My family all enjoyed their meals as well so we agreed it was worth the wait.

Which brings me to my next question: Are there any similar restaurants to Fresh that are closer to where we live in Thornhill (Bathurst and Centre)?
