due to power outages yesterday all of my regular eateries were closed, so we wound up at el chapala on smokey park hwy. to my surprise, we had a pretty decent meal there.
i had the enchiladas rancheros. cheese enchiladas topped with a pork and pepper mixture and covered in a smokey ranchero sauce. quite tasty, and, as the thursday special at $4.50, a good value.
my wife had a vegetable quesadilla that she said was good, specifically noting that the vegetables were not overcooked.
the salsa they serve with chips is pretty winpy, but the "hot" salsa i requested had good flavor, although even less heat than the one we were initially served.
top it off with a pitcher of dos equis for $5 and we had a pretty good meal.
it's not a great place, but it's worth a shot if you need a mexican fix. i'd put it well below tomato, limones, etc, but better than la paz.
