I take the children out on Sunday without Mummy, and often for lunch as well. You may have seen me; I am the one with the radiantly beautiful kiddies. The problem, which you may share, is where to take them for lunch.
I try to find a normal and healthy meal with stuff that childen will like and which is palatable to me. Price is a consideration, particulaly since the children are small. As I learned, pizza ends up fairly expensive and crummy so I look elsewhere. Buffets seem to work best. Here is what I have found . Do you have any suggestions?
With all these places you have to call and check what is a child and price. Price and age limits vary a bit with whom you speak. When you show up , they may vary
again. Don't be shy about asking the server to check with management if you get an unexpected answer
Shah Dining Lounge, 6313 Yonge (south of Steeles) 416-222-6809. Persian Buffet Saturday and Sunday 12-5pm, $9.99 adults, half price 5 years and under, but my six year old passed.
Undressed garden salad, chicken kebobs and ground beef kebobs prepared individually, three kinds of rice (green rice - with dill- is the kid's favourite) other hot dishes to adult taste, particularly good eggplant, includes tea. (Pretty decent quality for Persian in Toronto but kebobs Not on charcoal. Can't go wrong for adults at the price.
Sierra Grill. 416-224-1700, Bayview Village Mall. reincarnation of Sunshines with a smaller salad bar and much improved. A lot of the items on the salad bar now are actually pleasurable rather than good ingredients ruined.
$5.99 including drink at lunch, $6.99 at supper, 10 years old and under.I order the salad bar and burger and french fries combo.($13.49 lunch, $16 supper)The children share the burger and fries and have their own salad bar. Pretty good soup, yogurt, banana bread, nice salad ingredients for children, good commercial burger and fries. Industrial fruit salad.
Hot House Cafe , 35 Church St., 416-366-7800. Sunday buffet 10-3. Must make reservations, usually fairly early in the week. $15.95 adult, 12 yrs old and under, half price, toddlers free, they charge me for one adult for my 6, 5, and 4 year olds.
We pick from the salad bowl, good BBQ chicken, roast potatoes, good selection of pretty good fruit, waffle with strawberry sauce is a favourite.
They also have omlettes, institutional eggs, bacon, and sausages, pancakes, pretty good cheeses, poached salmon, lasagna, more hot dishes, a large selection of regrettable but good looking institutional cakes.
The roast beef can be a very vigorous chew.
The children like the live jazz entertainment a lot.
My best bet with the children because of the fruit, , waffle and jazz group. Jello too if I remember.
Great Khan Mongolian Grill, 7131 Kennedy Rd, 905-947-8288, in the mall on the north east corner Kennedy and Steeles at the back. $5.99 children lunch or $8.99 dinner; adult $10.99 lunch ,$11.99 dinner, weekends $11.99 and $18.99; a child is 130cm tall and under.
Unappetizing Chinese buffet to my tastes, quite good you put make they cook stir fry on the big circular grill. I put together a salad for the kids from the stir fry ingredients and get them a chicken stirfry. For dessert the kids like the strawberry ice dessert (I get a passion fruit jelly and coconut milk combo), jello, and canned manadarin oranges. The grill is a bit of a show for the children.
At dinner there is a hot pot, which I have never tried.
Any suggestions for other spots?
