Just a quick thanks for your recs and info on the Hollywood area. The food was really fabulous!!! Better than the food I have eaten in NYC recently.
Billy's Stone Crab - Good
Stone Crabs were watery but still good.
Cole slaw was unique. Toss your own.
Fried seafood fresh and delicious.
Conch chowder another winner.
Lunch at Nikki Marina
Salads and shredded duck quesadilla. Yum. More like an empanada.
Dinner at Michy's
Dinner was terffic. Started with the blue cheese and jamon croquettas. They were good but not as memorable as some say. The truffled polenta with poached egg WAS memorable as was the bibb lettuce salad with avocado dressing. Could be the best salad I've ever had. The steak frites were delish and the bernaise and chimichurri sauces were the perfect compliment. Finished with a bread pudding. With a fab Rose Sancerre at $83 our bill came to $180....peanuts for this nyc gal. Michelle was smiling and making rounds all night. We dined for 3 hours and no one rushed us. Great vibe. Will be back.
Lunch at LeTub.
Got a table on the rail under a palm tree and enjoyed the intercoastal for 45 minutes til our cheeseburger and fries came. Love that they tell you to get your own water. Great burger and great Bloody Mary. If in the area, I say go get a burger at LeTub. Burger is grilled and served on a kaiser roll. No pickles :((
Dinner at Michael's Genuine Food and Drink
Another great spot where the chef/owner was on premises!! Started with roasted butternut squash salad. Very good. Then the best part of the meal.... the chicken wings with yogurt dipping sauce. WOW. Go get wings at Michaels NOW. For main got a prawn each and a side of garlic mash. Prawn was close to the size of a lobster tail and charred to perfection. No dessert...too full. GM came by twice, dropped a card and made us feel very welcome. I was embarrassed at the cost of this meal which did only include one glass of wine as we ordered drinks at the bar. $76 !!!! This is a no brainer. Get in your car and go eat a Michaels'.
Day 4 -
Lunch - totally forgot?!?!!?
Dinner at Timo
In a strip mall, which I guess is the norm in FL, Timo was a warm and welcoming place. We started with the duck, carmelized onion, fontina and fig pizza. Too many figs...not enough onions for my taste, but still good. We also ordered the fried oyster salad. Nice but the fried oysters seemed to be thrown into the salad straight from fridge. hmmmm. For dinner I had the gnocchi with ragu and winter greens. I thought it was OK. It needed "something". But... the parardelle fra diavlo was heavenly. No dessert and one glass of wine and this bill was $124. Steep for strip mall I thought. If in area, I would still recommend.
Lunch at Padrinos
Had the lunch buffet for 8.99. A little bit of everything...plantains, picadillo, beef stew, baked chicken, pork, black beans and rice. I am still dreaming of this lunch. And we split a cubano. Yum again. Also brought two cubans back to NY with us. Loved loved loved this place.
I guess this wasn't a quick note. Thanks again and if ever in NYC please let me help you eat your way through town.
