The DC and I weren't feeling like the normal JP options on Friday evening and took a chance on finding a table at Cha Fahn. There was no need to worry as several were open, but they shouldn't have been. The food was fantastic and the service competent and endearing.
Started with a cucumber sake cocktail - yum - and shrimp summer rolls; they were probably the weakest element. Entrees were a bowl of beef noodle soup ($12) with some of the best, melt-in-your-mouth hunks of meat and a miso/sake roasted butterfish ($20) - awesome. I'm not sure I'm a sake person, but the recommended bottle went well enough with the food and it was nice to have some selection. Dessert was a fresh popover stuffed with berries and red bean paste ($6), also yummy. The most expensive bottle of wine on the small but decent list is $30 - sakes run about the same, starting at 10-15$ up to $30.
Always forget about this place when thinking of a nice meal in JP, but no longer - I love Ten Tables but it's nice to have another option for superb yet not too pricey dinner!
