Hi! Just spent a few weeks on Oahu. Didn't have much time to check out restuarants but we did discover Cha Cha Cha Salsaria in the Hawaii Kai Towne Center not far from Waikiki. We were trying to have lunch at Roy's but they weren't open-- grrr. We ended up getting something fusion-y in a different way.
This place advertizes as a mix of Jamaican and Mexican, which sounded awful to me, but it was pretty good. Tortilla soup had few or no tortillas in it, but it was good chicken soup. Fish tacos contained blackened ahi and pickled cabbage. We thought it would be a great place to get tacos for a picnic at Waimanolo Beach.
Later, friends took us to a branch of the same restaurant in Waikiki. More extensive menu there. I wouldn't make that my regular Mexican (where *do* people go for Mexican in Honolulu?) but it's nice, especially because it can be hard to find a restuarant in Waikiki that serves a lot of good vegetables, which this place does.
No other real discoveries this time. We went back to Giovanni's shrimp wagon on the North Shore-- greasy and delicious as ever.
